J. Rae’s Bakery will be returning to Fort Worth this July. It was founded in Fort Worth by Jana Howell in 2008. Well-known, especially for its decorated sugar cookies, the brand is set to return after nearly a decade. This time J. Rae’s his helmed by Howell’s niece, Audrey Dixon.

The beloved bakery garnered a loyal following. Parties of all occasions couldn’t resist having an order of specially handcrafted sugar cookies by J. Rae’s Bakery on display. After a journey that led to the opening of a Dallas location on Lover’s Lane and ultimately a name change of the Fort Worth original, those famous cookies and homemade desserts are returning to Fort Worth.

J. Rae’s newest location opens on Thursday, July 16, at 3330 West 7th Street. That’s in the same strip as Burgundy’s Local and Paris 7th.

Here’s the back story. Glitz Bakery started as J. Rae’s in 2008. Mandy and Chris Hamilton purchased the bakery on Foch Street in September of 2013. After owning the bakery for seven years, they had slowly modified the recipes and decided to refresh the brand by changing the name to Glitz Bakery. Glitz is now located at 6104 Southwest Boulevard.

In the meantime, Jana Howell’s niece, Audrey Dixon, helped carry the J. Rae’s brand forward. She opened a Dallas location in 2021. “Now, Dixon is leading J. Rae’s return to Fort Worth, bringing the beloved bakery back for the first time in over a decade,” according to a release.

“Like her aunt, Dixon fell in love with baking at a young age,” they say. “She spent her summers helping at the original J. Rae’s developing a passion for the business that would later shape her career.”

Dixon says decorating is important to her, but flavor always comes first. J. Rae’s signature hand-decorated sugar cookies will be available in store. Plus an “extensive selection of homemade treats, including classic cookies, cupcakes, cheesecakes, cake balls, and cookie cakes. Fan-favorite flavors range from chocolate chip, oatmeal chocolate chip and peanut butter cookies to red velvet, funfetti and lemon cakeballs, with seasonal offerings and custom-designed desserts available throughout the year.”

The Fort Worth location will offer a variety of grab-and-go treats daily, and of course, custom orders are available to make birthdays, holidays, corporate events, and celebrations unforgettable.

“It’s so exciting,” says Dixon. “My aunt Jana started J. Rae’s in Fort Worth, and to now be at a place where we are able to open a second location back where it all started is so special. Fort Worth has continued to show so much love for J. Rae’s over the years. We’ve had customers drive all the way to Dallas just to support us, so being able to serve this community again means everything.”
