Summer is tough for restaurants and bars. Let this be your sign to frequent your favorites while you can. They need your support. Here are a few local favorite restaurants that are calling it quits. These are the restaurant closures you need to know about in Fort Worth this July.
Jon’s Grille Closes in The TCU Area
Jon’s Grille has closed near TCU.
It’s been a long year for Chef Jon Bonnell. He battled back from a stage three cancer diagnosis to getting his PET scan results in May, declaring him cancer-free. The chef has been open about his journey and has advocated for fellow cancer patients through hosting blood drives, which are ongoing.
However, his burger joint, Jon’s Grille on West Berry Street, has closed after four years.
“This wasn’t a decision we made lightly,” Bonnell said in a post. “Like many independent restaurants, we’ve faced significant economic challenges over the past few years, and combined with my health journey, it’s simply become the right time to close this chapter.”
At Jon’s Grille, Chef Bonnell riffed on ranch-to-table burgers and barbecue.
In the good news category…Chef Bonnell, a long-time supporter of Fort Worth Food + Wine Foundation, has been added to its Board of Directors. A fitting honor for a restaurateur who has never said no to a request by the Foundation and is so well known for his generosity and support of the local food and beverage community.
In his honor, you can take part in a Carter Blood Drive this Saturday, July 18, from 1 pm to 4 pm at Bonnell’s Fine Texas Cuisine.
Ribbee’s Concept by Goldee’s Barbecue is on the Move
Ribbee’s, Goldee’s rib-centric offshoot is in search of new home.
A dominant force in Texas barbecue, Goldee’s landed at No. 1 on Texas Monthly’s quadrennial Top Ten list in 2021. They followed it up with a No. 3 finish in 2025. They opened a rib-centric concept in March of 2024 called Ribbee’s just of I-35 West.
It was located in a former Sonic at 923 East Seminary Drive. The building, which was painted red, is now closed, as it transforms once more.
Goldee’s owners explained in a post mid-June, “The building is changing hands, and the new landlords will be taking over the space to open a restaurant of their own. While it is incredibly tough to say goodbye, this isn’t the end of the road. We are actively looking for a new home for Ribbee’s so we can fire the pits back up for you soon.”
So, it’s closed for now, but not gone for good. We can’t wait to see where Ribbee’s will land next.
The MilkShake Factory Pulls Out of Grapevine
The MilkShake Factory has closed its doors in Grapevine.
The Pittsburgh-based company, with roots in chocolates and soda fountains, has since franchised nationwide. While it was making a big push in Texas, MilkShake Factory has closed its doors in Grapevine.
Sadly, that was the only Tarrant County location to date. Five other shops remain in Texas. One in Cypress, one in The Woodlands, one in San Antonio, and another opening there soon, plus one in Dallas on Preston Road.
The MilkShake Factory is known for its milkshake menu, including classic root beer floats and decadent flavors like chocolate-dipped strawberries.
MUTTS Canine Cantina Bows Out at Clearfork
MUTTS Canine Cantina has closed all locations including Clearfork.
Having opened in 2018, MUTTS was one of the first spots to open at The Shops at Clearfork. But, MUTTS has now closed all of its DFW locations, according to Star Telegram reporting.
The dog park/restaurant had something for everyone, human and canine alike. The shady space allowed dogs to run free while their owners socialized. A dog-lovers paradise.
“This place has been more than a dog park — it’s been a community, and we are truly grateful to every member, guest, and pup who made it so special,” the MUTTS website said.
