What goes together better than coffee and pie? Two famous local outfits are joining forces to spread their vision of “Fine Pie (and Coffee) for Fine Folk.” White Rhino Coffee announced today its purchase of Emporium Pies. Now White Rhino adds one of North Texas’ most beloved dessert destinations to its growing brand.
Emporium Pies was founded in 2012 in Dallas’ Bishop Arts District. It has spun off quaint pie shops, including ones in Deep Ellum and on McKinney Avenue, with one in Fort Worth on South Main Street.
“What began as a small operation selling pies from a 1930s Victorian bungalow in Bishop Arts, quickly grew into a fan favorite for Dallasites,” according to a release. It’s hard not to get addicted to their scratch-made specialty pies with flavors like the one they call Lord of Pies ― a caramel apple deep dish, or the Smooth Operator ― a French silk chocolate swirled into a salted pretzel crust.
Likewise, White Rhino Coffee is a Dallas-born specialty coffee company founded in 2007. One of the best coffee shops in town, White Rhino sadly closed its Fort Worth store this year, White Rhino has 12 locations in the Metroplex, including one in Arlington.
Rooted In Craft & Community
Both Emporium Pies and White Rhino are built on craft and community.
“The acquisition unites two majority women-owned, local brands,” they say. “Previous owners and sisters Landon Perdue, Jen Abohosh, and Addie Roberts agree that the transition reflects a natural alignment in values.”
The bakers, including Addie Roberts, will remain on staff, carrying forward the beloved recipes and spirit, ensuring that the heart of the company, which has made it a cherished favorite, remains unchanged.
“Part of our shared mission is hospitality and giving people a reason to celebrate,” says Addie Roberts. “We love the team, who I’ll continue working alongside, and I’m excited for this next chapter together. There’s something about dessert that brings people joy in a way nothing else can, and we’re thrilled to see that legacy carried forward.”
This Is What Happens When Business Models Align
Pie and coffee are a match made in heaven.
Both White Rhino and Emporium Pies have been embraced by their communities because community is at the heart of both business models.
“Emporium Pies has built an extraordinary legacy,” says Sara Escamilla, CEO of White Rhino Coffee. “Their products are consistently excellent, impeccably crafted, and beloved. Every pie is made with the highest quality ingredients. To be able to support and grow a concept of this caliber is an honor.”
While the businesses will operate as usual for now, White Rhino Coffee plans to explore expanding Emporium Pies’ footprint across the Dallas–Fort Worth area. The future holds “thoughtful collaborations and menu integrations.” White Rhino teases signature pie-and-coffee pairings in the near future.
“Emporium Pies will remain the same incredible pie shop customers know and love,” Escamilla added. “As part of the White Rhino Coffee family, we look forward to introducing more people to the brand. For now, it simply means coffee and pie ― two of life’s best comforts ― can be enjoyed across both brands.”
