Design Within Reach (DWR) is a big player in the home design space. A vast showroom is now underway in Fort Worth’s The Shops at Clearfork. Signage indicates that the home design superstore is anticipated to open this winter.
The Shops at Clearfork is home to many of Fort Worth’s most luxurious retailers, as well as some big names in home furnishings. Here you’ll find Arhaus, Ballard Designs, Into the Garden, and Natuzzi Italia. Design Within Reach will bring another major home furnishing magnet to town soon.
The space at 5001 Ozona Avenue, once housed Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams, and more recently became a long-term pop-up second location for West Fork Garden Market. It is being transformed as we speak. It’s one of the largest retail blocks in Clearfork, so prepare to be overwhelmed with variety.
What’s In Store For Fort Worth’s Design Within Reach
Tableware designs by Mette Hay make a bold statement.
The company was founded in 1998 in San Francisco by Rob Forbes. “When he tried to furnish his apartment with the clean, simple classics he’d come to appreciate while living in London.” He discovered that, “works by designers such as the Eameses, Le Corbusier, and Saarinen were ‘out of reach’ for anyone who didn’t know the secret handshake,” the website says.
“Rob and a small team bought 20 containers of inventory, mailed a catalog, and waited for the phone to ring,” they say. Once they turned off the answering machine … it’s been ringing ever since.
DWR is a resource for modern living. “Design Within Reach creates and sources authored home furnishings that are meant to be enjoyed over a lifetime — from home to home, and generation to generation,” they say.
You’ll find remarkable lighting like the Louis Poulsen line, furnishings and décor by Rolf and Mette Hay, and authentic lounge chairs by Eames. The layout of most stores features fully outfitted vignettes, so buyers can envision the pieces in their space. But, if you’d like a bit of help, DWR offers its free design service as well ― from room plans to fabric choices, even 3-D renderings.
Inside DWR, you’ll find everything to outfit your home, office, and patio. Explore sophisticated, sleek, and modern designs. From rugs, mirrors, and tabletops to storage solutions, headboards, and bar carts ― you’ll find it here.
More About Its Herman Miller Ties
The comfort and style of an Eames Chair never gets old.
While Herman Miller is well-known for its office and industrial furnishings today, in the mid-20th century, it became synonymous with modern design. With timeless designs by luminaries such as Charles and Ray Eames, Alexander Girard, and Isamu Noguchi, Herman Miller left an indelible mark on furniture design and construction.
You can enjoy a cocktail alongside two mid-century Noguchi sculptures located near the patio of 61 Osteria at the base of the building now known as First on 7th in downtown Fort Worth.
At Herman Miller, modular designs and molded wood constructions led to iconic furniture designs. Those include the Eames aluminum group, the Aeron chair, the Nelson Coconut lounge chair, and the Noguchi coffee table, just to name a few.
Michigan-based Herman Miller offered up some of its best sellers to the then-fledgling DWR firm, to be ordered through its catalog for the first time ever. Design Within Reach continued to grow and finally became part of the Herman Miller family in 2015.
Design Within Reach Sets Up Shop In Clearfork
Design Within Reach – Outdoor furniture and entertaining adds to the well crafted appeal.
There are 74 Design Within Reach locations now worldwide (including many within its parent company Herman Miller stores). The international footprint of DWR boasts three locations in Mexico and one in Paris, France. Texas is already home to stores in Dallas, Austin, Houston, The Woodlands, and San Marcos. Fort Worth will soon welcome store No. 75.
Although Pinstripes is now listed as “temporarily closed” on the Clearfork site, USA Today confirms that Fort Worth’s Pinstripes is, sadly, one of the ten locations the company decided to close on Monday, September 8, following its bankruptcy filing. Interior designer Adrian Wright recently closed his Wright at Home location there as well. But Lily Pulitzer is expected to open its third North Texas store there soon.
Clearfork continues to evolve with the ginormous addition of Design Within Reach.
