Two local legends have something to celebrate this spring. Then stick around for some artistic lattes and a slice of cake by one of Fort Worth’s most revered bakers. Consider this your second helping of Fort Worth food news for May.
Best Maid Pickles Celebrates 100 Years
Best Maid Pickles celebrated 100 years in May.
The family-owned business has been based in Fort Worth from the beginning. Now four generations of legacy. The company’s CEO, Brian Dalton, is a member of that fourth generation. He accepted four proclamations from the Mayor and members of the Fort Worth City Council honoring Best Maid Pickles on its first century.
The lineup began with condiments, like mayonnaise, and then the full range of pickles. In recent years they’ve even add sour pickle beer in collaboration with Martin House Brewing Company.
The Best Maid Pickle Emporium, located at the corner of College Avenue and West Vickery Boulevard, is filled with all things pickle and the history of this unique company’s success and local roots.
Roy Pope Grocery In New Hands

Another heritage brand, Roy Pope Grocery, is in new hands. Westland Hospitality Group announced that it is now in partnership with the current owners. In so doing, Westland has added another Fort Worth staple to its growing roster. That includes Westside Café, JD’s Hamburgers, Pulido’s Kitchen & Cantina, and Margie’s Italian Gardens.
Back in April of 2021, the local business (circa 1943) was going to close for good, but got a new lease on life along with a major revamp and reopened under new ownership. Now, the business model might be changing again. New hours were announced, with market hours from 8 am to 4 pm and deli hours only during lunch from 11 am to 2 pm.
According to a release regarding Roy Pope’s next chapter, “The new concept will preserve the Roy Pope name and honor its longstanding place in the community while introducing a refreshed dining experience rooted in hospitality, history, and Southern Americana flavor.”
“The new Roy Pope will take the concept in a refreshed direction,” they say, “while preserving the familiarity and sense of place that have made it meaningful to the surrounding community.”

Our studio also features a rotating selection of specialty iced lattes and matcha, available from our to-go latte bar. Come for the art, stay for the coffee.”
The Berries and Cream latte features strawberries, almond, and cream. There’s one called the Maplenut with maple and hazelnut, and the Coco Cloud is layered with coconut water, vanilla, and matcha.
Loft 22 Cakes Has a New Cake Studio
Loft 22 Cakes even has a Butterscotch Banana Pudding Cake for Memorial Day.
After moving from its original location on the Southside, baker extraordinaire Tareka Lofton has announced her new private cake studio. Loft 22 is now located at 502 Grand Avenue. Lofton rose to national fame with her remarkable toilet paper cakes during the COVID-19 lockdowns, and went on to appear on Prime Video’s Dr. Seuss’ Baking Challenge. Her wedding and special occasion cakes are highly sought after.
To place orders, check out the website or call 682.841.1771.
“Our new space will operate as an exclusive cake studio for pick-ups and delivery only, allowing us to focus on creating the beautiful, high-quality cakes our clients love, without the traditional retail storefront,” she says.
We can’t wait to see what will be brewing in June.
