One of Magnolia’s first restaurants to begin the Renaissance of Fort Worth’s Southside was Nonna Tata. It was a rare homestyle eatery by Chef Donatella Trotti. After its first two decades, this has become a local staple, a best-kept secret, and it is still a revelation.

In a Facebook post, Nonna Tata said, “When Donatella decided to open the restaurant back in March of 2006, she thought she’d be closed within six months. Little did she know, Fort Worth was desperate for authentic Italian cuisine. It means so much to us that, 20 years later, we are still cooking and keeping things small and personal: the Nonna Tata way.”

The authentic Northern Italian menu includes homemade focaccia bread and Trotti’s signature Torta Ciotola, an apple-and-pear cake. Specialties include seared veal, ricotta gnocchi, and Cornish hen with polenta. Fresh pasta dishes take on the shapes and flavors of the Mediterranean with capers, feta, crispy pancetta, and anchovies. Nonna Tata is a timeless escape. Happy Birthday to you!

In 2023, an upstart Dumont Creamery, filled with the rich traditions of Indian (including coffee and bubble teas) opened in Little Elm, Texas. They have already planted more than 10 locations, including the newest in Southlake, Texas. Others are dotted around the state, plus California, South Carolina, Arkansas, Ohio, and Georgia. In the coming years, the plan is to see Dumont become an international brand.

With 250 ice cream flavors in all (and around 50 varieties in stores, which revolve seasonally) you’ll have a tough time deciding. Dumont’s creative flavors spotlight cultures worldwide. They invite you to “taste the world, one handcrafted scoop at a time.”

Think Italian mint basil sorbet, Belgian Bischoff cookie, Dubai Chocolate, Jamaican Rum, or Indian Kheer sweet pudding flavors. Dumont’s Southlake store is now open at 100 North Kimball Avenue.

The bricks of Camp Bowie have long had a linchpin. Lucile’s Stateside Bistro has been serving up crab claws, lobster bisque, and craft cocktails inside the “Flatiron building” at 3700 Camp Bow since 1993.

Now, after more than three decades, it will soon spawn a second location, later this year. According to Community Impact, “Lucile’s will be opening in the old Zafiros Mexican Grill Y Catina in The Village.” That’s at 5204 Colleyville Boulevard.

“We are excited to welcome Lucile’s to Colleyville!” Mayor Bobby Lindamood said in the post. “With their strong following and high-quality dining, they are a perfect fit for our community.”

BREWED Coffee is now officially open at DFW airport. Located near Gate E18, it marks a new boutique coffee concept designed for travelers on the go. It was announced nearly a year ago.

BREWED’s current Terminal D location offers a taste of the full restaurant experience you’ll find at its original location on Magnolia Avenue ― serving BREWED’s signature brunch menu. That one opened in 2019, furthering the Fort Worth-born brand.

The new Terminal E shop is a more compact coffee concept. It features craft coffee, iced coffee, smoothies, refreshers, sandwiches, and small bites. The newest location opened to the public on March 27.

“We are ecstatic to be representing Fort Worth at DFW Airport,” says Joey Turner, co-owner of BREWED. “Airports are fast-paced places, and emotions can run high, so we wanted to create a space that brings a little joy to the journey.”
