A Slew of New Coffee Shops are Set to Take Over

It’s August, so cozy coffee shops might not be top of mind, but there a plenty of new ones to check out. Don’t worry, they serve cold foam, and iced specialty drinks too. Plus, one major player in the TCU area has closed. Here is all the coffee shop news you need to know this month in Fort Worth.

At The Oaks Coffee House

The quaint space that once housed Cannon Chinese Kitchen has finally found new life. At The Oaks Coffee House held its soft opening at the end of June. House drinks include the Blueberry Lavender Latte topped with cold foam, and the Salted Maple Spanish Latte made with condensed milk and maple syrup. The menu includes breakfast tacos, pastries, and avocado toast, plus all-day fare like salads, sandwiches, and soups.

Bowie Coffee Co.

Taking the place of the former Flat Track Coffee at 6475 Camp Bowie is a new Ridglea favorite, Bowie Coffee Co. The name change came in May, when Austin-based Flat Track returned to Central Texas. And, many of the staff have remained on. The pastry line-up includes almond or chocolate croissants, cinnamon swirl coffee cake, and cinnamon rolls with vanilla bean cream cheese icing.

Ivy Coffee Roasters

Ivy has moved to new digs, leaving its former location at 2726 Lipscomb St Suite 101 to serve as its full-time roastery. They moved into the heart of the Southside, at 106 East Daggett Avenue. Owner and coffee roaster Collin Brister is also focusing on wholesale roasting, barista training, and mobile catering. It seems that Ivy is following in the footsteps of Avoca, which was one of the first coffee roasters in Fort Worth.

Ampersand

A Fort Worth favorite has opened its first location at DFW Airport. You’ll find it at Terminal C37. Another is located across from the TCU campus, and the original remains in Artisan Circle. It transforms into a speakeasy by night. Proven winners include the Vietnamese iced coffee and the butter brew latte.

Deloulou Cafe

Located at 1201 Evans Avenue, Suite 100, Deloulou Café is by local fashion designer Marieloulou. Along with a full lineup including a tiramisu latte and a stable of three different matchas, the house specialty is fresh yuzu lemonade. Fuel ups for the day with a breakfast slider on a Hawaiian roll, or devour a vanilla or chocolate waffle. The young and ambitious owners are recent (2026) high school grads. The grand opening was July 28.

The Reel Coffee House

Now open at 2506 West Pioneer Parkway in Dalworthington Gardens, The Reel Coffee House was once a film set and post office. They plan to support local filmmakers too, by showcasing their short films from time to time.

“The Reel Coffee House was created by independent filmmakers for independent filmmakers,” they say. The remodel, the training, the learning was all self-funded.

Next to Arrive ― The Morning Bar

Construction is underway near the intersection of Clayton Road and 6521 Camp Bowie, in Ridglea Hills, or as the signage says “Bowie Hills”. And, we are not sure exactly what that means. When complete, it will be The Morning Bar, and its opening is scheduled for this fall. The website teases coffee drinks including seasonal specials, cold brews and teas, a homemade bakery filled with Pop-Tarts, biscuits and pastries, plus simple lunches.

Common Grounds Bows Out Near TCU

Just as college co-eds return to campus, one of their favorite coffee houses has shuttered for good. Common Grounds was located at 3110 Greene Avenue, just off Berry Street. Four locations remain, all in Waco.

“To our loyal Fort Worth patrons, we are grateful for the last 6 years we got to spend with you,” they posted on Sunday, August 9. “Whether studying for exams, hosting book clubs, or playing board games while enjoying a Cowboy Coffee or Arnold Palmer.”
