Wimbledon Tennis is known for its green grass courts and mandatory tennis whites, but this July it has also got a healthy dose of purple ― TCU purple, to be exact. With four current and former TCU tennis players earning a spot in the tournament. Former TCU star Cameron Norrie still in the hunt for men’s singles at Wimbledon, so there is plenty for Fort Worth tennis fans to Riff-Ram-Bah-Zoo about.

The All England Club welcomed back TCU alum Cam Norrie, along with current and former student athletes Jack Pinnington and Jake Fearnley. And, Lui Maxted added to the Frogs’ firepower at Wimbledon this year after being awarded his first doubles wild card. TCU Athletics is more than up and coming.

Sports Illustrated put it this way: “The grounds of Wimbledon are a tennis fan and tennis player’s dream. Strawberries and cream, grass courts, and the British summertime heat made an appearance alongside four TCU Horned Frog alumni.”

Cam Norrie entered the match against Can Mattia Bellucci as a slight underdog but came out victorious.

Cam Norrie made his 11th appearance, having participated in seven Wimbledon Championships. His current world ranking is 61, but he’s No. 2 in the British rankings.

Going into the July 4 match against Mattia Belluchi as a slight statistical underdog, Norrie bested him in straight sets heading into round four. British tennis fans are always ready to root for a countryman contender at their championships.

Jacob Fearnley, who graduated from TCU in May, is “a product of Edinburgh, Scotland,” according to TCU Magazine. He became “the first active collegian in program history to win a Wimbledon main draw match in 2023 with a first-round doubles victory.”

“For Fearnley, tabbed No. 49 in the ATP rankings, the visit to England marks his fourth career Grand Slam appearance. He advanced to the third round of the 2025 Australian Open and French Open.”

Jack Pinnington Jones is another former TCU hopeful and in his main draw debut. After being named the 2024 NCAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player and leading TCU to their first NCAA title, he kissed college goodbye and turned pro. Pinnington Jones is one to watch, according to ATP Tour.

”The 22-year-old recently completed his junior season at Texas Christian University, following in the footsteps of countrymen Cameron Norrie and Jacob Fearnley, who both played for TCU and are now inside the Top 100 of the PIF ATP Rankings,” they say.

“Pinnington Jones is turning pro and will look to seize a memorable moment in his first major main-draw appearance.”

The fourth Frog to play at this year’s Wimbledon was Lui Maxted, who was partnered with fellow Brit, Connor Thomson, in doubles. It was Maxted’s first appearance after being a wild card. The duo fell in straight sets in round one.

Horned Frog pride runs deep, and TCU’s tennis program continues to loom large on the world stage.
