Fort Worth is expanding in all directions and adding several enticing cuisines. We travel from Southside, to Westlake, and Benbrook in this installment of Fort Worth Food News for March 2026.
A Japanese husband-and-wife team, Hiro and Nami Ochiai, are the duo behind Hiro’s Kitchen. They’ll be opening a new restaurant, Hiro’s Kitchen – Sushi & Sake, in the Near Southside by early summer.
According to the website, Chef Hiro is originally from Niigata, Japan. He came to the U.S. in 2017. And, he “played a key role in the openings of Sushi Amane and Shion 69 Leonard in New York, helping both restaurants achieve Michelin star recognition as the Sous Chef and Beverage Director.” He is also certified as a Sake Sommelier (International Kikisake-shi).
Until Hiro’s Kitchen debuts, they will be hosting regular pop-up dinners next door at The Holly Wine Bar, so you can experience a preview of coming attractions. The next one is scheduled on Wednesday, March 25. All orders are pre-order only, and takeout is available.

Westlake welcomes its newest steakhouse with an upscale atmosphere. House of Toro Chophouse & Patio will arrive this March, according to OpenTable. It’s located at 1301 Solana Boulevard, building three, which was designed by famed international architect Ricardo Legorreta ― who also designed the striking Museum of Science and History in Fort Worth.
It’s described this way: “House of Toro is a refined chophouse inspired by the bold architecture of Ricardo Legorreta, where striking design meets a moody, sophisticated atmosphere. The menu features premium steaks, elevated dishes, and a robust wine program crafted for memorable dining experiences. Guests can enjoy a stunning patio, along with curated wine dinners and pairing classes throughout the year.”
“Just beyond the dining room, The Black Pearl lounge offers an indulgent escape with caviar service and perfectly chilled martinis, perfect for beginning or ending the evening in style.” The menu, which will contain prime cuts and fresh seafood, is still under wraps.
Original ChopShop bowls are satisfying and colorful.
Fort Worth’s first location of this healthy eating chain was announced in January. Now Original ChopShop is set to open on March 25. It is located at 105 East Pennsylvania, in the same building as Summer Moon Coffee and the nearby neighbor, Panther City Barbecue. It seems a perfect fit for the Medical District.
Original ChopShop began in Arizona and is now headquartered in Plano. This will be the 28th shop nationwide and the 10th location in North Texas. There is one in Southlake and Alliance as well.
They serve fresh-squeezed juices, protein shakes, and super fruit bowls. The bowls and salads can all be modified to make them your own. One fan favorite is the Thai Coconut Chicken Bowl with peanut sauce. And, the namesake Chopped-in-Shop salads are paired with house-made dressings. You can add grilled chicken, steak, shrimp, or tofu for protein.
Beren Meze and Grille will open soon at 1216 6th Street.
The former Maden Fine Plants space at 1216 6th Street will be home to Beren Meze & Grill House soon. They’ll begin welcoming guests to the new location the first week of April.
It arrived in March of 2025 at the food hall, serving up classic and modern Turkish dishes. The popular, family-run restaurant is ready to move out of its stall inside the Funkytown Food Hall at the corner of 8th Avenue and Magnolia.
A Turkish breakfast includes a Turkish bagel, feta cheese, olives, tomatoes, and cucumbers. Lunch and dinners include gyros, kebabs, and a full array of traditional appetizers like the super-smoky babaghannoush eggplant dip. For dessert, save room for the crispy baklava. It joins other sit-down Mediterranean dining options, including the fabulous Flying Carpet and the brand-new Meraki.
Benbrook will get its own Tacos & Avocados soon. As construction on the new build project is nearly complete. They say the opening will be in April. The first location opened in downtown Carrollton in 2024. Benbrook will be its second at 9300 Benbrook Boulevard.
The extensive menu includes classics like chicken tortilla soup, birria tacos with consommé, and Shiner-braised brisket and poblano enchiladas. They also serve some stylish signature cocktails and margaritas.
Sharing a parking lot will be Benbrook’s first Jake’s Hamburgers. In a strip that is so heavily chain and mostly fast food, this is a welcome addition. Like Tacos & Avocados, Jake’s is by Addison-based MAD Concepts Group.
There are currently 12 locations, including Aledo, Mansfield, and downtown Fort Worth. Jake’s has been serving award-winning burgers, hand-cut fries, and ice-cold schooners for over 40 years. The burgers are worth the splurge with smash patties and poppy-seed buns.
