Are you hungry for a bit more food news? This round-up ranges from Willow Park to Keller, and from Grapevine to Fort Worth’s Southside. You’ll nibble craft chocolates, score some pizza creations, and get ready for a fab new Turkish spot underway, in this round of Fort Worth food news for September.
DFW’s Terminal D has plans to cheer chocolate lovers with the opening of a new Dude, Sweet Chocolate retail shop. Expert Chocolatier, Katherine Clapner, will bring a taste of her Bishop Arts shop to world travelers with this entry. A location at Terminal D is so very appropriate for a chef with a tattoo called “Wanderlust” on her forearm. Clapner once had a Dude, Sweet shop in Fort Worth’s West Seventh (now Artisan Circle), and we’ve been addicted ever since.
Dr. Sue’s Blueberry Ancho Chile Bark will be back in Grapevine soon.
Here’s news from another local chocolate maven. After a decade in Grapevine, Dr. Sue’s Chocolate closed its shop in late July. Now, there’s word of a new location opening in October in Grapevine. The new location has not been revealed just yet. Dr. Sue is a practicing physician on a mission to inspire people to a healthier lifestyle through all-natural dark chocolate. Who doesn’t want to be healthier?
This popular vegan pizza shop is on the comeback, as well. After closing “for good” in late June, the wood-fired plant-based pizzeria is back. Soft re-opening began September 12 on Locke Avenue.
Colleyville will gain a vast Turkish and Mediterranean restaurant soon. It’s by Can Karatas of Istanbul Cuisine in both Flower Mound and Southlake, plus Fort Worth’s fabulous Flying Carpet just off Magnolia. The building at 1205 Church Street once housed Black Walnut Café. Karatas promises, “Bigger space. Bigger flavors. Bigger experience.”
Old Town Keller will welcome a new 3,250-square-foot building at 228 South Main Street. The mixed-use now under construction will become home to Luna Loco, with a Mexican menu by local restaurateur Cary Moon and Greg Polson of Keller Tavern. “Luna Loco is all about great food, great drinks, and a lively atmosphere,” Moon said. “We’re excited to bring a fresh new dining experience to Keller.”
Willow Park will soon welcome a new location of Rotolo’s. The Baton Rouge-based pizza concept has spawned many franchises in the South. Texas is already home to spots in Houston, The Woodlands, Longview, Tyler, Carrollton, and Mansfield. Willow Park’s newest will be at 225 Shops Boulevard. Expect Detroit-style pizza, pasta, burgers, and wings.
Expanded Hours and Offerings
Some who are established and under construction have news to share. New hours, and brunches, plus new spaces for cocktails and events. Plus, Cattlemen’s Steakhouse announces its new chef.
The breakfast and lunch superstar, with its full bakery and grab-and-go case, is now open until 7 pm on weekdays. You can now drop by to unwind with a glass of wine and an early dinner or grab a meal to go. With fall activities and sports underway, this is welcome news for the Tanglewood area.
Maria Elena’s pop-up events at Hao’s Grocery extend hours.
One of Fort Worth’s go-to spots for Asian dumplings and bao buns is now opening for weekend brunches, too. Hao’s Grocery & Café has begun a 10 am to 1 pm brunch on Saturdays and Sundays. And, hours are extending from 7 pm to 10 pm Fridays and Saturdays as well for Sips, Savories, and Sweets by Maria Elena’s pop-up. Register for these events here, plus the fun afternoon tea service.
Bocca Osteria Romana arrived just over a year ago in the Southside. It’s tucked down an alleyway just off South Main. On September 6, to celebrate the one-year anniversary of this fresh pasta place, they opened a patio and bar, calling it Club Bocca, surrounded by walls and backed by an open-air bar.
The new distillery that is currently repurposing Rahr Brewery’s former home in the Southside has announced plans for an event space called The Vault. While the focus of the distillery operation will be on American single malt whiskey, The Vault will add, “a one-of-a-kind event haven tucked inside Blue Flag Distillery, where heritage and hospitality blend seamlessly.” The event venue will host parties, galas, weddings, and fundraisers.
Chef Theodore Tom comes to Cattlemen’s from Las Vegas.
Cattlemen’s Steakhouse and its new Cattlemen’s Club announce a new chef, Ted Toms. Writer, director and rancher Taylor Sheridan and his partners Dan Schryer and David Glasser have hired Executive Chef Theodore Tom, formerly the Chef of the SW Steakhouse at the Wynn Las Vegas.
“We saw a tremendous opportunity to bring Chef Tom with his experience at one of Las Vegas’ finest steakhouses to Fort Worth,” Taylor Sheridan said, in a statement. “His experience creating bold flavors and showstopping presentations with our Four Sixes Ranch Prime beef in one of the most world-class, 5-Star hotels will translate well to reinvigorating a Cattlemen’s Steakhouse for future generations.”
