Did you know that Fort Worth is the home of the world’s original light beer? That’s right, the popular beer was first brewed in 1975 by Miller Brewing Company right here in Fort Worth, Texas. That makes it Miller Lite’s 50th anniversary this year. Miller Lite created a brand new category for beer drinkers everywhere ― paving the way for the light beer boom to follow.

Miller Lite’s 50th anniversary celebration will kick off with its new creative campaign, called “Legendary Stories Start With a Lite,” premiering during March Madness.

Look for the new commercial, which will be narrated by award-winning actor Christopher Walken. “The spot features snapshots of Miller Lite’s true all-stars ― the fans who have been with the brand for the last half of a century,” according to Miller Lite’s publicity.

“Several of the images have never been seen before, and were pulled from Miller Lite’s own archives,” they say. “All images in the commercial are authentic, genuine images captured over the last 50 years.”

Miller Lite fans should be on the lookout for a few familiar faces to pop up throughout the commercial, including sports legends like John Madden, Dick Butkus, and Bob Uecker, as well as country music icon and Miller Lite superfan Luke Combs who can also be seen enjoying a Miller Lite during one of his recent concerts. After all, a “long neck ice cold beer never broke his heart. So get your red cups ready for Miller Lite 50th anniversary.

Miller Brewing Company opened in Fort Worth in 1969, at 7001 South Freeway. And, Miller Lite was first introduced in 1975. Molson Coors acquired the full global brand portfolio of Miller Brewing Company in 2016. But the hometown brand remains a local legend, (like so many other success stories we celebrate this year), and it’s still brewed right here.

Thanks to over 500 local employees, the brewery turns out an astounding 8.2 million barrels of product each year, for some 72 different brands (like Topo Chico hard seltzer, Foster’s and Keystone Light, just to name a few), but two of the top brands produced here in Fort Worth remain Miller High Life and Miller Lite.

“The new commercial spot kicks off Miller Lite’s 50th anniversary,” Molson Coors says. “In the coming months, consumers can expect specialty packaging, unique collaborations, new celebrity partners, and more legendary experiences to be announced to celebrate the historic milestone.”

As if Fort Worth needed another reason, it’s time to raise a pint to Miller Lite as we celebrate 50 years with our hometown hero. It’s always Miller Time in Fort Worth.
