Owner Quincy Wallace is ready to invite his new neighbors in Crowley to enjoy his newest location of Fred’s Texas  Cafe. It’s near the corner of Main Street and Texas Street at 101 North Magnolia in Crowley. Fred’s Texas Cafe’s newest burger palace will celebrate its grand opening with Mayor Davis at a ribbon-cutting event on January 27 from noon to 1 pm.

The new restaurant is the first location of Fred’s Texas Cafe outside of Fort Worth city limits in its 48-year history. Fred’s began in the West Seventh District in 1978, long before the development of what is now Artisan Circle all around it.

Fred’s moved its flagship to 7101 Camp Bowie in 2022 and opened a second location in North Fort Worth at Western Center Boulevard. Now Crowley can expect great burgers, cold schooners, and excellent chicken-fried steaks in its historic downtown.

The new restaurant spans approximately 6,200 square feet and will offer seating for 220 guests indoors, according to a release. This includes “the historic bar space and newly constructed dining area, with an additional 60-seat covered patio planned to open at a later date.”

“The expanded footprint allows Fred’s to serve more guests while preserving the welcoming, come-as-you-are spirit the brand has been known for since 1978,” they say.

The Crowley community has a long relationship with this site.

“The original brick structure, which now houses the bar, dates back to 1887, when it first opened as the Hays Brothers General Store and Post Office,” the release explains. “The property later became the Clover Farm Store in 1919, and the original wooden building was replaced with brick in 1925. From 1957 to 1976, the space operated as Legg’s Super Saver.”

“As Fred’s opens its doors, guests will catch glimpses of Crowley’s past within these walls, even as new memories are made around the table,” says Mayor Bill Davis.

This building has served as a gathering place for generations, and we’re honored to carry that legacy forward,” says Fred’s Texas Cafe President Quincy Wallace. “We can’t wait to open our doors and welcome neighbors old and new.”

Fred’s announced plans to expand to Crowley in June of 2024, so it’s been a long wait for the community. Members of the media and the public are invited to attend the official ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday, January 27, from noon to 1 pm.

“Fred’s Texas Café is a Texas institution, celebrated for its legendary burgers and true Texas hospitality,” says Mayor Bill Davis. “For decades, Fred’s has been a place where friends and families gather to enjoy great food and cold drinks. We are thrilled that Fred’s has chosen Crowley as part of its next chapter and honored to welcome this beloved brand into the heart of our downtown.”

The Crowley location will begin with a limited opening period (for staff training) from January 17 through 26. After that, Fred’s Crowley location will be open daily from 10:30 am to 10:30 pm. This adds to a busy month of Fort Worth Food News.
