Here is your round of Fort Worth food news for August. We have some unusual new entries and more closures to announce. The local food and beverage landscape continues to evolve.

Swedish Candy Culture

A sweet new spot just opened at 3613 West Vickery Boulevard. The former Muy Frio frozen marg shop next to Holocron toy store is now the spot for a smorgasbord of fantasy candies. Founded by Crimson and Lukas Nathanson, Swedish Candy Culture is an ode to the Swedish tradition known as Saturday Candy, which was implemented to limit sugary lifestyles while still affording a weekly treat. Here you’ll find over 200 varieties of pick-and-mix imported candies. Plus, they ship nationwide for Swedish candy lovers who aren’t local.

Crunchy Girl Granola

Crunchy Girl Granola opened its new brick-and-mortar location. The long-time favorite stall at Clearfork Farmer’s Market now has a permanent home at 3520 Bluebonnet Circle. The small-batch granola company was founded right here in Fort Worth. Owner Gina Propp sells pre-packaged bags, bars, and bulk. Flavors include Birthday Cake, Trinity Trail Mix, and her popular Apple Cinnamon Blend, plus rotating seasonal varieties. Gotta love handmade and local products like this.

Drinks N’ Such

Chef David Hollister has debuted his casual eatery with a laid-back sports bar vibe. The central bar is massive, and there are flat screens galore. His pitch is this: “Your new favorite hangout to eat, drink, catch the game, and kick back. Bold flavors, scratch-made favorites, legendary wings, and the perfect place to grab another round.” Along with pub food staples, Drinks N’ Such will host Wednesday night steak nights for $24.99. It’s located at 2737 Stanley Avenue.

These Four Restaurants and Bars Have Closed For Good

Megu French Japanese Cuisine

The quirky mash-up with an extensive menu took over the equally quirky location vacated by Dwell Coffee & Biscuits at 3113 South University Drive. Chef Peter Liang first polished his culinary skills in New York City before moving to Texas. The “French” side of the menu featured golden curry puffs, pan-seared ostrich, Chilean sea bass, Spanish red shrimp, and crispy scallops with Hawaiian sauce. While the Japanese dishes included soba noodles, teriyaki, and lovely sushi and sashimi.

The Rim

When it opened, The Rim had Chef Keith “Buttons” Hicks to thank for its soul food-centric menu. It opened in 2021, taking over the Taco Diner space with a view to the lawn at Waterside. The original Rim location in Burleson rides on for now.

Pulido’s Hurst location

Mid-July saw a farewell from the recently retooled and reopened Hurst location of Pulido’s Kitchen & Cantina. It’s one of the many local favorites under the expanding umbrella of Westland Hospitality Group, who announced their plans for Flora at Fort Worth Botanic Garden in June as well. All remaining Pulido’s restaurants are still open. Those are in Fort Worth, Eastland and Willow Park.

The Basement Lounge

This go-to cocktail lounge, hidden below stairs in Ridglea, closed at the end of July. It was on our 17 Best Speakeasies, Bars and Lounges list last year. A fluorescent sign emblazoned with TBL was lit above the stairway. The Basement Lounge’s subterranean location gave it a modern, rustic speakeasy vibe at 6323 Camp Bowie Blvd, Suite 125.
