March is roaring in like a lion in terms of Fort Worth Food News, anyway. There is plenty on our plate with several new openings and more on the horizon, even a champagne bar to wash it all down.
The Original Roy Hutchins Barbecue opens March 13 in Arlington.
It’s finally time for the new location to open in Arlington. Roy Hutchins opens on March 13 at 1600 Copeland Road. The original location is in Trophy Club. Known for its Texas Twinkies ― bacon-wrapped jalapenos stuffed with cream cheese and brisket, then sweet-glazed. These are more than an appetizer; they are a destination.
And, do you know what Texas Twinkies go good with? How about St. Louis-style ribs, brisket burnt ends, and jalapeño cheddar sausage? Arlington is in for a treat. After all, Roy Hutchins began his journey in perfecting smoked meats in 1978.

The former Bella Italia space at the corner of Camp Bowie and Merrick will be scraped and newly built. While Bella Italia is moving further down Camp Bowie to the former Fitzgerald space, Now Town says Acquolina, an Aspen, Colorado-based Italian fine dining concept, is headed to Fort Worth.
Acquolina’s Aspen menu features a full range of pastas and pizzas, plus mains from filet mignon to veal scaloppini and eggplant parmesan. The renderings of the new space have us intrigued. It’s being designed by Houston-based Abel Design Group, which is known for its hospitality work.
Abel says it’s, “Planned for the corner of Camp Bowie Boulevard and Merrick Street, the proposed one-story, 7,500-square-foot Italian restaurant is anchored by a central bar, open dining areas, private dining and wine spaces, and on-site parking with valet accommodations.”
Boatman’s Yacht Club docks a fun lakeside concept in The Stockyards.
Drew Boatman, founder of Southern Hospitality Group, has been working on a new project for four years now. It’s an unexpected lakeside oasis in The Stockyards, called Boatman’s Yacht Club. It opened on February 20 at 301 West Exchange, at the top of Horseshoe Hill.
The group has already planted several fun and casual spots around town. Those include the Rusty Nickle Icehouse, Star Café in the Stockyards, Towne’s Coffee, which opened near Country Day School last year, and two of Fort Worth’s hottest speakeasies, Bodega and Dirty Laundry.
Judging from the logo for Boatman’s Yacht Club, one might expect “five houseboat front porches, Astroturf, lawn chairs, and tiki torches.” But the space is quite a bit more polished than that. The lakeside decor comes complete with Captain’s chairs at the bar. They say, you’ll find cold drinks, pool tables, and shuffleboard downstairs, with a cocktail menu upstairs, and balcony views overlooking bustling West Exchange Avenue.
Heim Pigstand zooms into Westland beginning Wednesday, March 4.
After closing the original location of Heim Barbecue on Magnolia Avenue, and opening a brand new restaurant in Weatherford, Heim is going back to its food truck roots too. Heim’s new Pig Stand concept is set to debut across from JD’s Hamburgers on Wednesday, March 4. That’s located at 9912 Camp Bowie West, in the Westland neighborhood.
The menu has already been released. It’s your choice of a chopped beef or pulled pork sandwich, with either potato salad or coleslaw, with banana pudding and a drink for $13 plus tax. If you are craving burnt bacon ends, or a raucous Barbecue Snob sandwich you’ll have to go to one of Heim’s brick-and-mortar locations. Hours at the Pigstand will be 11 am to 2 pm, Wednesday through Friday only to start.
Rotolo’s Craft & Crust just landed in Willow Park.
Late February also saw the opening of Rotolo’s in Willow Park. It’s at 225 Shops Boulevard. The 30-year-old pizza shop has locations dotted all over the South, especially in its home state of Louisiana. There are now locations in Texas, with two others in North Texas ― Carrollton and Mansfield.
The wide-ranging menu includes burgers and wings along with pasta selections. They are famous for their Detroit-style pizzas, plus traditional rounds and calzones.
Finally, Colleyville will welcome a laid-back champagne lounge soon. Pop & Pour will be located at 5665 Colleyville Boulevard, Suite 150. Construction is underway now. The concept will serve bubbly from around the world along with small plates and charcuterie boards, according to Grapevine Edit.
