Sweet Stacks

Sweet Stacks is a new Asian fusion concept with souffle style pancakes.

The hole-in-the-wall location that was most recently home to Vice Burger at 1515 West Magnolia Avenue is now Asian fusion. Along with Thai, coconut, mango, and strawberry matcha lattes, Sweet Stacks specializes in soufflé-style pancake creations. Or nosh on duck fat fried rice, gyoza dumplings, and familiar Thai specialties like Pad-Se- Eew and Pad Thai and the like. They have milk teas and a range of specialty coffee drinks, including the black sesame, along with traditional Lao, Thai, and Vietnamese coffee.

Sweet Stacks has been popular during its soft opening. So much so, they just announced updated hours.

“Please note that we will now be open daily from 11:00 am to 9:00 pm. In addition, we will be closed from 3:30 pm to 5:00 pm each day for restocking,” according to a social post.

Buonissimo

Buonissimo brings true Italian to downtown
Buonissimo brings true Italian to downtown, including the traditional lasagna.

There’s a new lunch and dinner option near Sundance Square. Buonissimo opened at 150 Throckmorton just in time for the holidays. It’s in the former Avanti Ristorante space.

With its executive chef, Armando Sobatti, from Milan, a pastry chef from Rome, and a sous chef from Sardinia, Buonissimo brings a true taste of Italy to downtown Fort Worth. Veal is a big player. The Vitello Tonnato is a chilled starter featuring veal and capers. The menu also has some rare specialties like the slow-cooked Osso Bucco served with Milanese saffron risotto, and gnocchi with cheese fondue and truffle.

Vicela Coffee & Cocktail Lounge

Vicela Coffee and Cocktails
Vicela Coffee and Cocktails will inhabit the former Lockwood Distilling location.

With a planned February opening, Vicela will land at 1411 West Magnolia. Not much else is known about this hybrid concept featuring coffee drinks and cocktails. It will take over the former location of Lockwood Distilling, complete with its garage doors that open for a breeze on those rare days.

Sprinkles Cupcakes

Sprinkles Cupcakes closes for good
Sprinkles Cupcakes closes for good after a 20 year run.

Farewell to the fantasy cupcakery founded by Candace Nelson in 2005. Sprinkles has announced the closure of all its locations. The brand was known for its gourmet take on the humble childhood dessert. It also became famous for it ATM style cupcake vending machines. One was located in the garage at The Shops at Clearfork, which made for a sneaky treat after a day of shopping. The company has closed for good after a 20-year run.

Sprinkles Cupcakes were handcrafted from the finest ingredients, including sweet cream butter, bittersweet Belgian chocolate, pure Madagascar Bourbon vanilla, fresh bananas and carrots, real strawberries, and natural citrus zests. Topped with Sprinkles’ trademark modern dots, rich chocolate sprinkles from France, or seasonal sugar decorations. They will be missed.

Weatherford and Willow Park Rising

Now that Heim Barbecue has opened at 1910 South Main Street, and the uber-cool Chapel Bar by Chef Christian Lehrmann is now pouring, Weatherford residents are savoring what’s still to come. Willow Park continues its climb with recent additions including The Holic Pho and Cork and Pig Tavern at the District at Willow Park.

Teddy Wong’s

The second location of this Chinese dumpling powerhouse is in the hiring phase now. It’s taking over the former Zeno’s location at 102 Houston Avenue. Friends and family love sharing steamed dumplings (like pork and chive or truffle mushroom) and main dish specialties, including Peking Duck. The wine selection is notable, and the pan-fried scallion pancakes are not to be missed.

Pulido’s Kitchen & Cantina

Willow Park will get its own locally famous Tex-Mex soon. Westland Hospitality reopened the original location of Pulido’s near University Street, as well as the Eastland location, recently. Now there will be a stop in between, adding one in Willow Park at 104 South Ranch House Road. Get ready for puffy tacos, the Mama Plate, and fresh salsa soon.
