The Growth of Fort Worth is quickly bleeding into its suburbs. Burleson, Texas, is achieving its own growth spurt, and that means investment is on the horizon. The city of Burleson and Groundwork Development Partners have announced a partnership that will surely transform Burleson. Tallgrass will be a $1-billion master planned community spanning more than 621 acres.
The western gateway to the city of Burleson will soon become a mega-development called Tallgrass. Located at the interchange of the Chisholm Trail Parkway at FM 1902, it represents more than $1 billion in investment. Tallgrass “will deliver approximately 4,000 new residential units and 1 million square feet of commercial development in a dynamic, multi-generational, mixed-use community,” according to Burleson.
Unlike the patchwork of urban sprawl that we see popping up in all directions these days, some master planned communities are built to be a destination, like Maverick, the golf course enclave currently under construction at the intersection of Fort Worth, Willow Park, and Benbrook. Likewise, Tallgrass plans to reshape Burleson with its thoughtful design. The quality of life of its residents is at the heart of the project.
How Tallgrass Plans To Connect To Nature

“The vision for Tallgrass is a true legacy effort that interconnects the needs of social, environmental, educational and economic values,” says Steven Spears, a principal with Groundwork Development and Momark Development, located in Austin.
We all know growth is coming to Tarrant County; it’s just impressive to see it being thought out in advance of turning dirt. Useable greenspace at Tallgrass will ensure that the growth of Burleson won’t become a concrete jungle.
“The land has meant so much to our family for generations,” said Brandi Armstrong Reckling. “This place represented a respite from daily stresses and somewhere we could take a deep breath, connect with nature, and rebalance. Therefore, it was important to us that any future development carried with it our family’s relationship to the land for future residents. In partnering with Groundwork and the city of Burleson, we will be able to accomplish these goals.”
“In addition to residential housing, the project will feature a future elementary school, more than 1 million square feet of employment, retail, and commercial space, and a signature town center,” they say. “Residents and visitors will also enjoy five miles of trails and 90 acres of parks, open space, and community amenities, making Tallgrass a true live-work-play environment.”

“This is the kind of development that shapes a community for generations to come,” said Alex Philips, economic development director for the City of Burleson. “From our very first meeting with Groundwork, it was clear this partnership would create something truly special. The legacy they are envisioning with Tallgrass will be a source of pride for our city.”
Along with the increased need for housing in our area, transportation improvements are key. Burleson is already planning the “four-lane expansion of the Chisholm Trail Parkway,” and has plans to “expand FM 1902 to a four-lane divided roadway,” to manage the increased traffic.
“This key interchange sets the stage for substantial residential development, significant regional and local commercial and employment opportunities — all integrated with trails, parks, schools, and restored tallgrass prairie landscape — truly becoming the future western gateway to Burleson, Texas.”
