Meadowbrook Golf Course officially reopened to the public on Friday, October 3, with a ribbon-cutting celebration. Located on Fort Worth’s east side, the completely revitalized Meadowbrook Golf Course is a fabulous new 18-hole amenity for city residents.
Fort Worth Golf has a new crown jewel to tout. After an extensive two-year renovation of the timeless Meadowbrook Golf Course, it’s now accepting tee times and ready to show off the $38-million overhaul.
Historic Meadowbrook Golf Course celebrated its centennial in 2024, amidst its ongoing transformation. The course was originally designed by John Bredemus and was later renovated by Ralph Plummer in 1962. Bredemus left his mark on other famous courses in Fort Worth as well. They include Ridglea Country Club’s original north course; Rockwood Park, and Colonial Country Club, which he designed along with Perry Maxwell for Marvin Leonard (first as Leonard’s private club that he later opened for membership).
Major Makeover Celebrates a Century of Historic Golf in Meadowbrook

“Almost every hole has been rerouted, and the irrigation system, turf, and cart paths have all been replaced,” said Kyle McClure, Assistant Director of Golf and Athletics for the City of Fort Worth Recreation Department. “The ponds have been enlarged and deepened to allow for better drainage ― and welcome some new guests to the course.”
“Among the creatures that call Meadowbrook home is its new ambassador: The black-bellied whistling duck,” McClure explained. “Graceful, distinctive, and a frequent visitor to our fairways, this remarkable bird embodies the spirit of our course. Like a well-played round of golf, it moves with precision, patience, and a touch of playfulness. Its unmistakable whistle has become part of the soundtrack of our course, a reminder to enjoy the game and embrace the beauty around us.”
The duck symbol is now a part of the Meadowbrook Golf Course logo.
Meadowbrook has the most rolling terrain of the City’s three golf courses, including Rockwood Park (which got a similar treatment, reopening in 2017) and Pecan Valley. The City is also home to the six-hole, par-three River’s Edge course.
The new vision came to life with a design by course architect, Trey Kemp, restoring and updating John Bredemus’ brilliance. He took full advantage of its unique site.
Clubhouse, Landscape, and Dining Updates

New landscaping around the clubhouse features hardy Texas-native species. “Vitex, salvia, and lantana, plants that thrive in our region’s climate and require far less water than traditional landscaping, now inhabit the beds along the back patio of the clubhouse,” they say.
The Duck Bill Grill is ready at the turn, serving breakfast burritos and sandwiches until 10:30 am. Later tee times will enjoy build-your-own burgers, chicken tenders, sandwiches, and hot dogs.
Meadowbrook is now a par-71 course. It plays to a length of 6,363 yards from the Championship (blue) tees and 5,966 yards from the Regular (white) tees, and play from the Forward (red) tees is right at 5,000 yards. Tee times are available here.
