Felina brings thin crust, Roman style pizza to Bryan Avenue.

The chefs behind the menu of Italian eatery Bocca Osteria Romana just off South Main Street have launched a new pizza spot nearby at 401 Bryan Avenue. Felina will serve Roman-style artisan pizzas with cracker-thin crust, artisan pizzas. After several pop-up events to refine the menu, Felina began its soft opening on February 10 from 3 pm until 9 pm, with limited seating.

The pop-up menu previewed a Margherita with pomodoro, fior di latte mozzarella, fresh pecorino, and basil. The Hot Mess adds to that soppressata, house-made hot honey, and whipped ricotta. A dish simply called Blossoms is squash blossoms filled with Oaxaca cheese, anchovies, and burrata cheese.

This will give brothers Alessandro and Alfonso Salvatore a new outlet to showcase their creativity.

Pulido’s has been on a comeback ever since Westland Hospitality took over the beloved Fort Worth Tex-Mex restaurant. First, it reopened the original location on Pulido Street. Then came a revival of the Hurst and Eastland locations. Now, a new outpost has arrived in Willow Park

That’s right, the former Lazy J Ranchwear spot at 104 South Ranch House Road is now serving fresh salsa and chips. Pulido’s is famous for its puffy tacos and its Mama and Papa dinner, each served with a famous praline. Its neighbor The Holic Pho arrived nearby last summer.

The new hybrid concept is a small family-owned shop, according to Near Southside.

They will serve “both caffeinated, non-alcoholic, and alcoholic options ― will cater to overnight and late-night industry workers and early morning healthcare professionals. Owners Laura and Christian look forward to building strong ties with Fairmount, Ryan Place, Mistletoe, and Fort Worth residents at large in a space they have built for the community.”

Panther Island Brewing Closes For Good

Panther Island Brewing
Panther Island Brewing bows out after 11 years in Fort Worth.

I’m not crying, that’s just my Allergeez. The family-owned microbrewery named after the city’s “Panther Island” district is closing for good. Founded in 2014 as one of Fort Worth’s first craft breweries (Rahr was first in 2004), it rode the crest of the craft brewing craze.

In a post on February 6, they said: “After 11 unforgettable years, Panther Island Brewing will be closing its doors. We’re endlessly proud of the beers we brewed, the stories we shared, and the people who made it all meaningful.”

Those beers included their award-winning American wheat ale called Allergeez (which was their first big hit), a milk stout called Sweet Fang, and Trick Rider, their citrusy American IPA.

With its laid-back taproom, local events, and a strong community vibe, it was set along the Trinity River. It was one of the first businesses you saw at 501 North Main Street, as you crossed the bridge from downtown, heading towards The Stockyards.

One final toast will take place at a Farewell Event on Friday, Feb 13, from 6 pm to 10pm. Panther Island Brewing will be missed.
