A new Pan-Asian and sushi restaurant has quietly opened in Fort Worth. It has just landed at 1164 South University Drive near Maria’s Mexican and Panera Bread. Oishii Sushi  & Pan Asian Cuisine brings its beloved Dallas staple to University Boulevard, dubbed Oishii Colonial.

Executive Chef & Owner, Thanh Nguyen, opened Oishii’s original location in Dallas over 20 years ago, before expanding to seven locations. Four are currently in Dallas proper (Wycliff, Maple Avenue, Preston Road, and SMU Boulevard) plus one in Plano and another in Grapevine. Now Fort Worth gets its first taste as Oishii Colonial becomes the city’s first.

With an expansive menu of sushi, sashimi and Chinese, Thai and Vietnamese specialties it’s no wonder Oishii has been a long-term hit with diners. After all, in Japanese, Oishii means delicious.

Chef Thanh Nguyen Is Still On A Roll

Chef Nguyen announced Oishii was rolling into town with a series of social posts in prime Fort Worth locations.

Thanh Nguyen was born  in Vietnam. “His family immigrated to the US in 1992 to the city of Dallas in the footsteps of Thanh’s sisters who ventured to the States in 1982 as one of “the Boat People,” according to the website.

For nearly nine years Chef Nguyen worked at Nakamoto in Plano. Parlaying that restaurant experience he “went on to the restaurant Steel and became Dallas’ first Vietnamese sushi chef.”

Fresh and creative sushi awaits at Oishii Colonial.

You’ll be treated to a traditional selection of sushi, including sashimi (raw slices), nigiri (served atop rice) and maki (rolls).

The Chef Specialty Rolls include the Thanh Scallop Roll with shrimp, salmon, spicy yellowtail and tempura flakes, topped with seared scallops, serrano peppers, flying fish roe, thinly sliced lemon, sriracha, truffle oil, spicy mayo and wasabi cream sauce. Or the popular Cowboys Roll with shrimp tempura, asparagus, blue cheese, jalapeno and avocado, wrapped with seared beef tenderloin. (This should be a hit in Cowtown)

In addition to sushi, Oishii serves up Pan-Asian favorites, like stir-fried Shaken Beef and Lemongrass Chicken, Crispy Kung Pao Shrimp, Pad Thai, Vietnamese Pho soup, and Peking Duck. So, everyone at the table to feast on their favorite cuisine from Japanese to Chinese and from Thai to Vietnamese.

The bar menu features and extensive wine and Japanese sake selection, plus beer. Cocktails include a Lychee Martini and one called Kyshu Coast made with Iichiko Silhouette Shochu (a cucumber infused rice liquor), Crop cucumber vodka, Thatcher’s Elderflower Liqueur, lemon juice, and housemade mint coriander syrup.

The modern interior has fluted details, mixed with light wood tones and black banquettes. The long sushi bar is at the back with another smaller on off to your right. Oishii is open seven days a week for lunch and dinner.
