In North Texas late summer calls for ice cream. So, we’d be celebrating these frozen treats even if National Ice Cream Day (which is July 20) didn’t tell us that we had to. And, if that target is too specific for you, it also happens to be National Ice Cream month, so grab a scoop at your leisure. Fort Worth has some special ice cream spots to cool off with a sweet treat. Here are Fort Worth’s Top 10 ice cream shops.

Amorino Gelato

Amarino Gelato waffle cone rose
Amorino Gelato is famous for its waffle cone rose.

This is not Parisian-style gelato, this is gelato imported from Paris. With over 200 stores world-wide, Clearfork’s Amorino Gelato is one of the only places you can get a taste of true gelato flavors like bright pear hibiscus, pistachio sorbet, Amarena, or lime basil.

Choose your flavors and they are shaped with a spatula into rose atop your cone or fanned neatly into a cup. The sorbets are intensely flavored, and the ice creams are like a quick trip to the Ill Saint Louis.

Van Leeuwen Ice Cream

Van Leeuwen Ice Creams is located in Westbend
Van Leeuwen Ice Creams is located in Westbend.

This is a nice addition to Westbend, with its collection of eateries and shopping experiences (and Pottery Barn and West Elm are soon to join the line-up). Van Leewen brings a rich array of treats. Ice cream flavors include honeycomb and Earl Grey tea, plus a vegan collection and limited time creations like the sweet corn and blueberry jam mango sorbet.

Van Leewen began in New York City and still prides itself on sourcing real (good) ingredients. They even offer local delivery and pick-up orders.

MELT Ice Creams

MELT Ice Creams
MELT Ice Creams has five locations after its first decade in the joy business.

With its first decade in the rearview and a new production facility, called Joy Factory, MELT has five local locations: Magnolia, Main Street and Mule Alley. Hey I just realized that all the Fort Worth store location also begin with an “M”.  Plus, one shop in the Bishop Arts neighborhood of Dallas, and a new one in Willow Park as well.

This small-batch creamery focuses on seasonal variety and creative flavors, and even some plant based options so everybody can enjoy MELT. Stand outs include Saltlick ― a buttery caramel, and Key Lime Pie.

Marble Slab Creamery

Marble Slab Creamery
Marble Slab Creamery is famous for its free mix-ins.

North Texas is littered with Marble Slab Creamery locations and for good reason. The small-batch creamery never disappoints. It gets its name from the marble slab which is were the real magic happens, when guest choose a mix-in or two and watch their scoop get worked over incorporating the candy, nuts, or fruits they chose. They also have celebration cakes, signature sundaes and shakes.

Curly’s Frozen Custard

Choose the shady patio or simply drive -thru, but don’t miss the annual July custard ― Parker County Peach. It’s worth waiting all year for. Curly’s has been a mainstay on the Camp Bowie bricks for over 20 years. It’s owned by Westland Hospitality Group which reopened Margie’s Italian Gardens on the other side of town, Camp Bowie West.

Curly’s also has its blank slate of chocolate, vanilla and lemon just awaiting your creativity to choose the right mix of toppings. The concretes are another fan favorites all blended together and dressed up like the Pulido’s Praline (Westland also owns Pulido’s).

Mr. Henry’s Real Fruit Ice Cream

Mr. Henry’s blends fresh fruit in its ice cream for a New Zeeland style twist.

Burleson is home to DFW’s first New Zealand style ice cream shop. Smooth vanilla soft serve is blended with fresh fruits. The Pineapple Paradise blends sweet pineapple with toasted coconut, graham cracker crust and a drizzle of La Lechera. They also serve floats with orange soda, cola or root beer, and Mr. Henry has American style ice creams too ― birthday cake, buttered pecan, pistachio and the like.

La’Creamian

La'Creamian just off Sundance Square
La’Creamian serves its ultra premium ice creams just off Sundance Square.

Located in downtown Fort Worth, La’Creamian is known for its creamy creations. For instance, Bourbon Black Chocolate is ribboned with fudgy brown sugar bourbon brownies. Strawberry Sweet Note has a twist of pomegranate swirl. Look for seasonal sensations too like the luscious lemon and vanilla caramel crumble.

Creamistry

Creamistry
Creamistry takes small batch to heart.

Left Bank’s ice cream shop is a showstopper. Beyond even small-batch ice creameries, Creamistry uses liquid nitrogen to make each serving fresh ― one scoop at a time. This means you can customize your order, including vegan dairy-free and organic options, with bases including coconut and cashew.

The topping and mix-in selections appear in beakers like a delicious science experiment. You can choose from Fruity Pebbles cereal to Thai tea, and Nutella, with premium candies, sauces and nuts too.

Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream

Handel's
Handel’s is ready for take home fun as well.

With locations in Arlington and Southlake, Handel’s has been around for 80 years. It began in Youngstown, Ohio, and has spread across the nation. And, with a collection of over 100 flavors you’ll never get bored. Choose from ice creams, sherberts, ices and sorbets, from banana cream pie to blueberry cobbler and chocolate malt with caramel, even frosted animal cookies.

Morgan’s Ice Cream

Morgan's small batch ice cream
Morgan’s small batch wonders include some special flavors.

With locations on South Main Street and in Burleson Morgan’s Ice Cream comes from the owners of the new closed Dwell Coffee & Biscuits. They churn only fresh ice creams and no sorbets, and no run of the mill basic flavors either.

You’ll find fan favorites like Wookies Cookies ― a cinnamon blended with chocolate shavings and bits of housemade oatmeal cookies, and S’Morgans ― with graham cracker crumbles and mini marshmallows.

Keep it cool this summer and celebrate with a scoop from your favorite shop.
