As summer gets kicked off and temperatures rise, remember your favorite local restaurants, and choose to dine there and show your support, rather than the big chains that have deep corporate pockets to get them through the lean months. We’ve seen a lot of closures in recent months, don’t let your go-to spot become one of them. This round of Fort Worth food news does include closures, but also reimaginings, and new openings on tap, in some cases literally.
New Name, Same Tap Wall
Our Taphouse is now open at 1001 Bryan Avenue. Many will recall that the brick building was home to Fort Worth’s first growler filling station, Pouring Glory. After a nine-year run, this Near Southside staple bowed out the first week of January. Now, Our Taphouse takes over in a location.
You’ll be greeted by the same wall of tap handles and a similar vibe featuring craft food and live music. It’s your new (yet nostalgic) neighborhood pub.
“We pride ourselves in offering a wide selection of craft beers from local breweries,” promises Our Taphouse. “Whether you’re a fan of hoppy IPAs or rich stouts, we have something to satisfy every palate.”
Grain RootBakery Readies to Open the “Dough” In Colleyville
Grain Root Bakery opens its doors soon in Colleyville.
A new bakery is coming to Colleyville. Grain Root will open in the next couple of months along Colleyville Boulevard. Grain Root has been a popular stop at Grapevine’s Artisan Market. Now they’ll have a storefront to match.
Specializing in sourdough breads and pastries, the bakery is busy installing its sourdough equipment and plenty of oven space to keep up with demand. You’ll also find cookies, pretzels, focaccia, croissants and such.
Izakaya Concept Added to South Main Village
Ichiro Izakaya Yakitori Grill and Bar will bring a traditional Japanese Izakaya to the Southside. Ichiro Izakaya Yakitori and Bar will open soon. They’ll be focusing on yakitori and charcoal-grilled items. It will open at 401 Bryan Avenue, Suite 109. This is the former location of Funky Picnic Brewery & Café, which officially closed to the public in April of 2024 after a five-year run there.
“Inspired by late-night food alleys in Japan, smokey yakitori stalls, and ice-cold highballs, it’s the perfect place to unwind after work, share food and drinks, and experience true Japanese hospitality,” according to a social post.
Fort Worth always gets excited about new Asian eateries, or am I speaking for myself? The local culinary scene has long been lacking in that area, and with Shinjuku Station (which was one of Fort Worth’s very first izakaya concepts) now closed on Magnolia Avenue, as well as its sister restaurant Cannon Chinese, which was located nearby, that has left Wabi House, Teddy Wongs, and The Pantry on Magnolia picking up the slack.
Ok, Ichiro Izakaya, we are officially excited!
The Gardenland Café Picks Up Where Heirloom Left Off
Heirloom FW is no longer found at Archie’s Gardenland, focusing on caterings and special dinners now.
A novel eatery opened Archie’s Gardenland for visitors to enjoy creative, garden-fresh daily lunches amid lush landscaping and even a few elaborate evening meals called Greenhouse Gatherings. Heirloom opened in January of 2023, but May 16 was the final day of service for the vibrant green food truck with its yellow tables and chairs.
“We’re incredibly grateful for the time we’ve spent there and for the opportunity to share that space with the wonderful Archie family,” say Heirloom’s chefs Kevin Martinez and Joshua Donovan. “As we turn the page, Heirloom will be shifting to a new chapter – focusing on catering, pop-ups, and ghost kitchen offerings.”
Heirloom Catering is ready to chat about your next event. And, they are planning a special dinner for June, so check out the website for details.
There’s no word just yet on when the Gardenland Café will open its café and patio at Archie’s Gardenland, nor details about the new operation.
The Magnolia is Evolving From Wine Bar to Event Venue
The Magnolia plans to focus as much on events as it does on wine going forward.
Magnolia Avenue’s longtime wine bar The Magnolia is not going away. It’s just shifting its focus. The beloved wine bar will remain open from 3 pm to 9 pm daily for local oenophiles to get their fill, but the lovely space with its charming patio and its thoroughly modern interior will now become an event venue. The wine bar is planning for greater flexibility in hosting private and public events.
The patio has a stunning magnolia mural painted against its red brick courtyard wall, and the front-facing brick wall has lyrics from Fort Worth’s own Leon Bridges. They are from his song Beyond, and Leon, who set up there to play a virtual concert during COVID, signed the wall himself.
The Magnolia has always been a chill spot to hang out, at it will be a great party venue as well.
Hoppin’ Closes After Just 10 Months, In Fort Worth Food News
Owners Michael and Holly Brittner opened a franchise of Hoppin’ last August. It arrived with a self-serve tap wall and an active indoor/outdoor vibe perfect for lawn games and lazy afternoons.
The concept started in Charlotte, South Carolina, and has made a franchise push, with one other local outpost remaining in Grapevine.
