If you are involved in the Fort Worth arts scene, chances are you are already acquainted with Mouty Shackelford. She’s a mixed-media artist and writer who has her finger on the pulse of Fort Worth’s vibrant art scene. As the publisher and editor of Artsy Scoop Magazine, Mouty shines a spotlight on local creatives and the Fort Worth art community from visual to performing and every artistic venture in between.
Born in New Orleans, Shackelford grew up in both Dallas and Los Angeles before settling in Fort Worth in 2010. She was seven months pregnant with her son, and didn’t know a soul. That’s a lonely place to be.
“I didn’t feel grounded or content in Fort Worth until I got involved in the art community,” Mouty Shackelford tells Fort Worth Digital Diary. That was the connection that made her feel at home here. She found her tribe by investing in our arts scene alongside other like-minded local creatives.
Shackelford’s own artworks are tactile, three-dimensional, mixed-media works. Filled with both texture and color, they provide a sensory experience through her signature “Sewn Paint” technique. She sculpts and paints with thread, dried paint, and resin. The results are simply mesmerizing.
As a working artist, she has won many awards, including Grand Prize at the Texas Artist Coalition Juried Show in Fort Worth to People’s Choice at the Botanical Art Exhibit at the Fort Worth Botanic Gardens, both in 2018. As a voice in local media, she’s just getting started.
The Publisher and Editor of Artsy Scoop Magazine
Artsy Scoop founder Mouty Shackelford spotlights the creative community in Fort Worth.
Artsy Scoop Magazine is her local, arts-focused publication dedicated to celebrating the vibrant creative community in Fort Worth. It’s for artists and creatives, and about artists and creatives.
“It serves as a platform for promoting the talent, culture, and businesses that define the city’s art scene,” she says. “The magazine features stories, interviews, and insights into Fort Worth’s artistic landscape, making it a valuable resource for both locals and visitors interested in the arts.”
Mouty Shackelford began Artsy Scoop first as a blog in 2021. She launched it at the tail end of the pandemic, as “a way to reconnect with the world and spotlight the incredible talent in our city,” she says. It was a way to blend her “skills, passion, and love for the arts into a collective vision.”
Through its online platform, social media channels, and now its monthly print magazine, it delivers engaging stories, insights, and features on contemporary art, galleries, and events, with a focus on the creative businesses that make Fort Worth so extraordinary.
What You’ll Find in Each Print Edition of Artsy Scoop
Artsy Scoop – The fourth edition of the magazine is out now.
Now celebrating its fourth print edition, the magazine represents a natural evolution of her brand. Each issue will dive deep into Fort Worth’s local art scene and its cultural happenings ― featuring creators and local businesses that support the arts, like her recent article about the mission of the Welman Project, located on Vickery Boulevard, near Swiss Pastry Shop.
“I’m especially excited to introduce the Artful Travels section, where we’ll take you on art-filled journeys to destinations outside the metroplex,” Shackelford explains. “Whether it’s exploring iconic museums or discovering hidden artistic gems, we hope to inspire your wanderlust and perhaps even spark your next adventure.”
“We are committed to highlighting the extraordinary talent and businesses that make Fort Worth thrive, creating a platform that uplifts, inspires, and connects our readers to the transformative power of art.”
Mouty Shackelford continues to shine a light on the local creatives who made Fort Worth feel like home to her through her Artsy Scoop Magazine.
Both Welman Project and James Turrell’s Skyspace can also be found in print inside the April issue of Artsy Scoop Magazine, which shines a spotlight on the city’s vibrant arts and culture scene.
