The Kava Bar is making waves in North Texas, opening its first Fort Worth location soon. The ‘sober hang-out’ features non-alcoholic drinks like its namesake, kava, which is a traditional beverage on the island of Fiji, providing a euphoric feeling. The Denton-based company looks forward to introducing Cowtown to the spirit of ‘Bula’ when it opens in the spring near the intersection of Camp Bowie and Horne Street. The toast ‘Bula’ means life or good health in Fiji.
The former Rocco’s Pizza location at 5714 Locke Avenue, in The Locke Block strip, will open next door to Szechuan Chinese. Construction on The Kava Bar Fort Worth is now underway, and an April opening is anticipated.
Originally opened in Denton as a franchise of Florida-based Kava Culture, Dr. David Darrigan transitioned it to The Kava Bar in 2023, maintaining a very similar menu and vibe. Two other Kava Bars have been added in Dallas and Oak Cliff.
On the Menu at The Kava Bar

Coffee drinks are made by Lemma Coffee Roaster with three locations in North Texas (in Carrollton, Frisco, and Plano). So, while you can experience your coffee as a botanical brew, at The Kava Bar, you can also simply sip your favorite coffee drink from lattes to cold brews. Nice to know, since the newly opened Lala Land Kind Café nearby remains a packed house.
There are elixirs made from the leaves of a Southeast Asian tree, Kratom, known to produce psychoactive compounds, as well as Delta-8 cannabinoid, on the menu, and available to purchase and take home.
The customizable menu includes an assortment of juices, milks, syrups, and creamers. Plus, specialty drinks that come in flavors such as Berry Pound Cake, and the guava and mango forward Ocean Breeze. In partnership with Golden Root Ginger Beer (which is also Denton-based), you can even add your choice of botanical to craft your own favorite drink.
A New Sober Hang-Out

Fort Worth’s first Kava Bar has even been promoted by local influencer Jenn Kautsch, who is the founder of a non-profit called SoberSis and a leader in the ‘sober curious’ movement, and advocate of the alcohol-free lifestyle, and what she calls a sober sisterhood.
It will be a place to work during the day and relax in the evening with friends. A small stage will even provide live music and karaoke nights. The Kava Bar plans to be pet-friendly as well.
The Kava Bar will soon bring a brand new, alcohol-free experience and hangout to town.
